Reform vs. Radicalism: More Damn Labels to Divide Us.

I always think it’s important to understand that terms used even with concrete definitions still mean different things to different people. Here are the two words which appear to be creating a wedge between different groups of people. This phenomena of using these two words as classification of ideas and actions, to be labeled as this or that, is not only divisive, but illogical. Have we not learned that thinking in two dimensional terms is part of the 1% strategy? We see it everyday. Republicans vs. Democrats, Liberals vs. Conservatives, and now we have Radicals vs. Reformists to contend with.

Radical: 1. Of or going to the root of origin. 2. Thoroughgoing or extreme. especially as regards change accepted as or for traditional norms. 3. favor drastic political, economic or social reforms. 4. Forming a basis of foundation

Reform: 1. The amendment or improvement of what is wrong, corrupt or unsatisfactory etc. 2. An instance of this. 3. The amendment of conduct, belief etc. etc.

Reforms

The quandary of reforms, is that the status quo has made a long habit of declaring intentions to implement these reforms, and they always fall short. Because of this, asking the status quo to institute reforms only leads to more degradation of what is in a state of decay. This is why I feel, that there is great distrust among those who have recognized this practice, and call attention to it. However, aren’t there reforms large enough to be embraced by a populist movement which could restore our rights to freedom, allowing us as a people to flourish? Not that I see simple reforms as being anywhere close to the transformation required by our civilization.

Radicalism

Going back to the definition listed above, one could say going to the roots of our problems is key to this line of thinking. But what does this actually mean? Is favoring one form of economics over another really radical thinking? Is there a difference between radical ideas and radical actions? Clearly new ideas are radical,
